Choosing Switch Plates for Warm, Material-Led Interiors
Wiring devices are the smallest objects in a room and the ones a hand touches most. Choosing them well is a materials decision before it is a product decision.
Warm palettes
Against oak, walnut, travertine and lime plaster, champagne gold and brushed gold read as jewellery rather than hardware. Keep the plate frameless so the metal registers as a line, not a border.
Cool and monochrome palettes
Concrete, terrazzo and smoked glass are better served by matte black, dark grey or silver. Matte black in particular holds an edge crisply where a gloss finish would pick up every reflection.
Mixing finishes without losing coherence
One warm metal and one neutral is a workable rule: gold in the public rooms, matte white in bedrooms and service areas. Never mix two golds of different temperature on the same floor.
